WSU vs OSU: Pitchers Dual?
By Tristan Threlkeld - May 15, 2007
For the second consecutive inning the Cowboys put a runner on third base and get nothing for it. Matt Mangini singled in his first at bat and on the very first pitch to Jordy Mercer he stole second for his sixth steal of the season. Mangini eventually moved to third base on Mercer's sac-fly to centerfield. Mangini sat at third for the rest of the inning. He sat there with only one out to watch three batters come up empty. Dylan Brown struckout swining, but the Cowboys got a little gleam in their eye when catcher Ryan Flavell, who is from the land down under (Australia), walked on five pitches. Then came the big man on campus, Ty Wright, he stroked one to leftfield and the wind looked to help him out but Shockers leftfielder Bret Bascue grabbed the ball for a line-out to end the at bat for the Cowboys.
Bascue must have fed off that defense, because he got on base for the Shockers in the bottom of the second on a bunt to the pitcher. Cowboy pitcher Joe Kent picked up the bunt and then attempted to dive at Bascue to tag him out, but he lost the ball in the process. Bascue eventually stole second to put a runner on second for the second consecutive inning for the Shockers, but again it was all to no avail as both teams still have nothing in the run column.
End of two 0-0
