Chapel Hill: Final Wrap
By Kenny Cook - June 03, 2007
Western Carolina has advanced in the Chapel Hill Regional to face host and #3 national seed North Carolina. The Catamounts eliminated East Carolina with a 9-5 victory. Brock Thornburg (4-2) got the win with 5 1/2 innings of relief for starter Corey Martin. Chris Masters closed it out with 2 1/3 innings of perfect ball, including four strikeouts, to post his first save. Josh Dowdy (5-2) took the loss for East Carolina.
"It's a gratifying win," said Catamounts Coach Todd Raleigh. He said he is unsure of who will start tomorrow's game against the Tar Heels, but that just about any of his pitchers could be called into action. Drew Saberhagen, who threw 117 pitches in eight innings last night, told Raleigh he can pitch tomorrow, and even scribbled his name on the lineup card tonight in volunteering to pitch if needed
The game took only 2:43 to play, and the official attendance was 2,235. That was obviously the paid attendance, as there were probably half that number in the stands due to the inclement weather and long rain delay.
