Chapel Hill: Post Game Comments

By Kenny Cook - June 02, 2007

In today's first game, Western Carolina eliminated Jacksonville with a 7-0 victory. Drew Saberhagen got the win to go 9-1 on the year. He threw 117 pitches in 8 innings.

WCU Coach Todd Raleigh said, "Drew Saberhagen was phenomenal." When asked the difference between losing last night and winning today, he said, "We pitched a lot better." As for tomorrow's chances against either North Carolina or East Carolina, "We're a hard team to beat."

Saberhagen, who lives in California, said of his teammates, "This is my family out here." He explained how today's win allowed him to extend that feeling. He felt that he was not very sharp in the bullpen before the game (a sentiment Coach Raleigh echoed), but once the game started everything came together for him.

Steven Strausbaugh had 3 hits in the game and as for the team's offensive prowess said, "Our bats can bring it out about anytime."

Sophomore Corey Martin will get the nod for Western Carolina tomorrow.
