CWS: Feels Like '81 In Here
By Doug Kroll - June 19, 2007
When you turn on your television sets tonight and see Arizona State's high gold socks and bright gold hats, we're not back in 1981. The Sun Devils have brought back their uniforms from yester-year as they get set to play UC Irvine tonight in our second elimination game of the day.
As expected, the pitching matchup is half the same from what we saw last night, as lefty Brian Flores gets the nod for the second straight night for the Sun Devils. Flores is 11-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 23 games (22 starts), and has thrown 119 innings, while giving up 47 walks and striking out 92 batters. Opponents are hitting just .248 against him.
Flores lasted only an inning against Oregon State last night, giving up four hits and two runs while only throwing 21 pitches. Head coach pat Murphy said after the game that he can throw everyday, and at elast for these two days, that's the truth.
Dave Serrano's Anteaters will throw out righty Eric Pettis. He's a freshman with all of six starts under his belt, but has racked up 24 appearances overall in his first collegiate season. Pettis is 4-0 with a 4.36 ERA, and in 53.2 innings, he's walked 18 while striking out 35.
Personnel-wise, ASU's lineup looks much like the one last night, but actual order-wise it's a little different. Tim Smith who didn't start last night, but pinch hit in the second inning (go back and look at last night's posts for that explanation), is the leadoff man tonight, while 3B CJ Retherford who batted leadoff last night, will start his tenth game of the year, but this time in the eighth slot.
As always enjoy the game everybody, and follow along with Gametracker. See you right back here afterwards.
