CWS: Owls And Heels Again

By Doug Kroll - June 20, 2007

Welcome back to Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium as North Carolina gets set to take on Rice. It's a gorgeous day, a little bit warmer than it has been the last couple of days, with temperatures expected to get up near 90, but there's not a cloud in the sky.

We have a good pitching matchup on tap for you, as UNC will throw righty Robert Woodard, who is 10-2 with a 3.30 ERA on the year. In 17 starts, Woodard has thrown 106.1 innings, while walking 26 and striking out 80. Opponents are hitting .268 against him.

For the Rice Owls, freshman Ryan Berry takes the hill. The righty is 11-2 with a 3.03 ERA in 19 starts (22 games). He's tossed 119 innings, while giving up 32 walks and striking out 122. Opponents are hitting just .248 against him.

The thing about this matchup is that both of these guys pitched in the 2007 CWS already, and each one had very little sucess. It'll be interesting to see which one comes out and has a better outing today, because it wouldn't take much to top what they did in their first starts of the week.

Berry was lit up by Louisville, while Woodard was hit hard and often by Mississippi State.

Rice is your home team, while UNC is visiting on this Wednesday. The Tar Heels have on the powder blue tops with white pants and white hats, while the Owls have on their home whites.

The starters stumbled in the first go round, so let's see what they can do with the wind back to the way it was in the first couple of days here in Omaha; straight out to left.

Just so you know, if the Tar Heels win, they come right back tomorrow (not sure of time yet, either 1 or 6 depending on what happens tonight).

Enjoy the game everybody, and we'll be back after with postgame analysis and more. As always, follow along with Gametracker.
