Fayetteville: Day 3 Begins - Arkansas v. Creighton

By Jean Neuberger - June 03, 2007

We are half an hour away from the first game in today's action of the 2007 Fayetteville Regional. Today, #1 Arkansas and #2 Creighton battle to stay alive. The winner gets an evening date with Oklahoma State. The loser ends their season in disappointing fashion.

These are two great programs, with two great coaches, that are sending two great pitchers to the mound today. This is a battle that many expected to be the finale, especially with the late season slide of Oklahoma State. However, the Cowboys have proven to be underrated as a #3 seed, and now the Hogs and Jays have to fight for survival in a warm summer's day at Baum.

Turnout is low for this game. For one, it's a Sunday afternoon. Secondly, following the worst performance all year by Arkansas, there were a lot of Razorback fans who left disgusted, and aren't likely to shell out more money to watch another performance like the one they gave last night.

Creighton will be the home team, and are in their home whites. Arkansas will again play the role of visitor, and appears to be decked in the road red.

Following yesterday's games, it's hard to give the edge matchups, because neither team played the way they wanted to play, or usually play. Here's today's starting pitchers though...

CU - LHP Ben Mancuso (10-2, 2.28 ERA)
UA - LHP Nick Schmidt (10-3, 2.85 ERA)

It's the Razorbacks and Bluejays here at Baum...the winner goes on, the loser goes home.
