Myrtle Beach: Mercifully Over
By Doug Kroll - June 04, 2007
It's over in Myrtle Beach. Well, it's been over since the third inning, but it's seriously over now. This one was never in doubt, as Clemson rolls on through to the Super Regionals with a 15-3 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Where to start...Clemson put up two in the first, five in the third, six in the fourth, and two more in the eighth, while pounding out 20 hits. Andy D'Alessio is finally showing why he was many people's pick for national player of the year at the beginning of the season. With another homer, double, and single today, everyone has forgotten that he hadn't had an RBI before facing the Chants yesterday.
So where's this leave us? Clemson will be meeting Mississippi State, we're just not sure where. Everyone's guess is in Clemson, but we'll still have to see.
What a year for Coastal, as Gilmore once again does something that this program has never done before. Look for some more big things from the Chants in 2008. They did an excellent job hosting, and they will certainly be back.
Thanks to everybody here in Myrtle Beach, it's been a long, but fun weekend. Enjoy the Super Regional selections tonight. One would think that Clemson's going to host, but we've been surprised before.
Until next week from what will likely be Nashville if Vanderbilt can pull out a win tonight, your final score, Clemson 15, Coastal Carolina 3, as Clemson wins the 2007 Myrtle Beach Regional.
