Myrtle Beach: Ready To Go
By Doug Kroll - June 01, 2007
We're ready to go from Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as No. 2 seed Clemson is ready for No. 3 seed St. John's. Tons of orange in the crowd for Clemson, more than any of us had even thought, which was a lot to begin with.
It's a real good starting pitching matchup in the opener. For St. John's, sophomore lefty Scott Barnes takes the hill. He's 7-2 with a 3.08 ERA in 14 starts, including tossing a no-hitter against Georgetown earlier in the year. He has 92 K's in 87.2 IP, and opponents are hitting .252 against him.
For Clemson, it's the junior Daniel Moskos who will make his ninth start of the season after being converted from the closer's role. A likely high first round pick next week, Moskos is 3-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 25 appearances overall. He's struckout 70 batters in 66.1 IP.
One thing that sticks out to me about St. John's is only one player is hitting under .300, which is DH Chris Joachim who is hitting .290.
