Myrtle Beach: We Ready

By Doug Kroll - June 04, 2007

What a day for baseball. Not a cloud in the sky, it's 83 degrees, and it feels like 88 as we get set for the first championship game between Clemson and Coastal Carolina. If Coastal Carolina can find a way to win, we'll play again at 7pm. An interesting pitching matchup on tap, as the groundscrew does their finishing touches to Coastal Federal Field.

The Chanticleers will be the home team in their home whites with white cutoffs on top, while Clemson will wear their purple tops, white pants and white hats. Purple has to be tough in the sun.

Pitching-wise, it'll be two guys who have been converted into starters this year. For Clemson, D.J. Mitchell (primarily an outfielder on this team), will start. He's 4-0 with a 3.42 ERA in 14 appearances, and six starts. He's got 43 K's in 47.1 IP.

For Coastal, Nick McCully (who got the win last night with two innings of perfect relief), is 7-2 with a 2.60 ERA, in 22 appearances with seven starts this year. Opponents are hitting just .212 against him, with 42 K's in 52 innings.

For Gary Gilmore's Chants, he just needs to take this inning by inning. Obviously he'll be running low on arms.
