Oxford: Bearkats take the lead

By Chris Kieffer - June 02, 2007

Sam Houston State took its first lead of this regional thanks to two more errors by Troy. 5-3 Bearkats 4.5 innings.
The Trojans have made three errors today and eight through 13 innings in the regional.
With Troy closer Josh Dew, the nation's leader in strikeouts per nine innings, standing on first base, the Trojans might need to put him in since they're not doing so well with balls put in play.

Two of the errors have been made by Trojan shortstop Charalie Calamia (several infield hits have also gone to Calamia). Calamia entered the game with four errors on the season and all four of them came in one game. So his two in this game seem to be a bad omen and the Trojans began warming up their other shortstop, Shohei Fujita, who had an error yesterday.

After scoring twice in the fourth, Sam Houston unsuccessfully attempted a steal of home with Clint Mann on third and Bobby Verbick on first and two outs. Verbick took off first distracting Troy left-handed pitcher Joe Hallahan and then Mann snuck towards the plate, but Hallahan fired to Trojan catcher Josh Blackwell in time.
