Oxford: Trojan disaster
By Chris Kieffer - June 01, 2007
Southern Miss now ahead 10-1 in the fourth after a disasterous 2nd inning for the Trojans.
It was enough to knock Troy ace Clegg Snipes out of the game.
The poison for the Trojans was three errors in the inning. They now have four for the game.
If hits are contagious maybe errors were too as thre three miscues came on three consecutive hitters after Eddie Burger singled to lead off the frame.
Chris Matesich then bunted to Troy first baseman Josh Dew, but Trojan second baseman Edgar Ramirez mishandled the throw from Dew to put runners on first and third.
Bo Davis then sent a ball to right field that Clint Robinson dropped, allowing Burger to score. The play was ruled a sacrifice fly, giving USM the rare chance to get three sacrifice flies in an inning.
Snipes made the third error on a bunt attempt by Dozier that put runners on first and second with no outs and then Jody Blount hit the second sacrifice fly of the inning of the first out.Davis scored on a passed ball and James Ewing drove in two with a single.
Brian Dozier just hit a home run to make it 10-1. Left Jonathan Sabat is now pitching for Troy.
