San Diego: What a difference a week makes
By Patrick Creaven - June 04, 2007
If anyone read my preview for the San Diego Regional, you knew I wasn't too high on Cal State Fullerton's chances of making it into the Super Regionals.
I thought it was ridiculous that they got a No. 2 seed and that after finishing the season 6-11, I thought the Titans were most likely not going to be ]a threat in the NCAA Tournament.
Ooooops.
With San Diego falling on its face, Fullerton took full adavantage, doing what San Diego couldn't do, beating Minnesota and Fresno State.
Wes Roemer looked like his old self on Friday, but even more important than that, a lineup that has struggled for much of the season looked fantastic, scoring 26 runs in three games.
With UCLA coming to Goodwin Field next week, Cal State Fullerton is probably a favorite to make it to Omaha. Now that was almost unthinkable three days ago.

What has been a tumultuous, mostly disappointing season for the Titans could end with another trip to Omaha. Wow!
CSUF can never be counted out because, no matter the situation, the backbone of the program is outstanding fundamentals. And the talent base always is good, even in an off-year, as this one appeared to be.
If we can beat UCLA, then whatever happens in Omaha is a bonus. My ideas of CSUF baseball success is getting to Omaha. Get there, the season's good, no matter how we fare. Fail to get that far, and no matter what else has happened, it's a disappointment.
And although they're our No. 2 rival (and maybe No. 1 now, with Serrano in charge), it's been great to see what UCI has done in Texas. I hope the Anteaters finish off Augie and Co., then join us in Omaha.
Give the Big West some respect!
Go Titans!
