Tallahassee: That's a wrap
By Michael McGuffee - June 03, 2007
That's all she wrote in Tallahassee as the Seminoles bounce back today to eliminate the Stetson Hatters 17-1, thanks mostly in part to an 11-run seventh inning.
Ryan Strauss gets the win for the Seminoles and improves to 10-3 on the season, giving Florida State three pitchers with at least 10 wins on the year.
The Tribe logged 18 hits for the game, following last night's three-hit struggle, and I guess we'll find out if they can keep it going into the ensuing matchup with the Mississippi State Bulldogs who have yet to fall in regional play.
First baseman Brandon Reichert led the offensive clinic for Florida State, finishing 3-for-5 with 4 RBI. Lead off hitter Tony Thomas Jr. also hit 3-for-5 on the day, while designated hitter Dennis Guinn's three-run homer helped him reach 4 RBI for the game.
Eight players in the starting lineup recorded hits, with four of them giving multi-hit performances. The Seminole production forced Hatter head coach Pete Dunn to dig deep into the bullpen, as a total of five Stetson pitchers were brought on in relief.
Jake Hitchcock takes the loss for Stetson and falls to 5-2 on the year. He allowed 7 hits and 5 runs through 4 and 1/3 innings.
With only the two top seeds alive in the tournament, the Seminoles must survive tonight and beat the Bulldogs again tomorrow in order to avoid the upset.
Senior right hander Josh Johnson will get the start tonight for Mississippi State (2-3), while the Seminoles have yet to announce a starter. Most likely it will be junior right hander Danny Rosen (2-1)
