Wichita: Round One to UC Irvine

By Jean Neuberger - June 09, 2007

If you wanted a low-scoring, pitcher's duel, this was your game...

UCI.....000...000...010....1..7..0
WSU..000...000...000....0..8..0

Irvine manages to score the only run of the game on a two-out, bases loaded grounder that Shocker pitcher Noah Krol couldn't handle, allowing Cody Cipriano to score from third. Wichita sent the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Tyler Hill popped a foul ball to third, stranding Josh Workman at first and sending an Eck Stadium record crowd of 8,153 back home disappointed.

Meanwhile, it was another outstanding performance from Anteater P Scott Gorgen, who proved he's the real deal with his second straight complete game.

WP - Gorgan (12-2)
LP - Womack (3-2)

We'll be back with quotes, analysis, and a wrapup of today's action here in Wichita.
