Wichita: Scoring machines

By Callie Wasson - June 02, 2007

Start of the 7th, WSU's Derek Schermerhorn hits one into the stands that lands with a loud bang. Schermerhorn hits one to the right field and gets on base. Sublett hits one that gives the netting behind homeplate a purpose. As Sublett his another foul ball, Schermerhorn tries to steal second and in the process twists his ankle. He is okay though and travels back to first. Sublett hits, and Schermerhorn safley makes it to second without injuring himself. After a meeting with Coach Stephenson, Matt Brown makes a bunt that gets him to first base. Conor Gillaspie comes up to bat with bases loaded. Shocker fans are going nuts! Gillaspie delivers, and Schermerhorn and Sublett come in for 2 runs. Shockers are now up 5 to 2. As ORU pitcher Hefner collects himself, Workman comes up to bat trying to send in Brown for another run. He does this with a double towards left field, and the Shocks now have 6 runs.

ORU sends in another pitcher, #8 Erik Crichton.

This time yesterday the game had been delayed due to threatning weather. Opposite conditions today, as it is a beautiful day in Wichita, Kansas. That sure is Kansas climate for you.

Gillaspie hits one to the center field that is dropped, but still was able to come back in and give the Shocks their first out. Workman is batted in for another run. Weber is the only Shocker on base as Dirks is up to bat. Dirks hits it past the second baseman and sends Weber from 2nd base in for the run. Shocks now up 9 to 2. Schermerhorn hits it, but it is caught and that gives the Shockers their 3rd out. What an exciting inning for the Shockers!
