NCAA: Costner For Mayor

By Doug Kroll - August 22, 2007

Kevin Costner may have been born in Compton, Calif., but that doesn't mean part of his hart isn't in Omaha, Neb. of all places. As some of you may know, Costner is in town every time Cal State Fullerton makes a trip to the College World Series, supporting his alma mater. So who better, besides our own Eric Sorenson (born in Omaha), than to participate in the "Save Rosenblatt" TV commercial campaign.

Costner is in New Mexico currently shooting a movie named Swing Vote, and the "Save Rosenblatt" organization is sending a film crew out there to get the star of a ton of baseball movies, including, Chasing Dreams, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, and For Love of the Game, into the commercials to save Rosenblatt from the wrecking ball.

Of course this has been a huge issue in the world of college baseball, when the plan for a new stadium in Omaha was revealed, or even worse, a plan for the College World Series to leave the town altogether. Getting Costner into TV spots is a great idea. He will supposedly talk about all of the historic moments that have taken place at Johhny Rosenblatt Stadium.

The argument that they want to build a panda exhibit on the site, which is right next to the Omaha Zoo, isn't the worst idea in the world. They say it will bring in more money annually than the site does now, since the CWS is only two weeks and the Omaha Royals struggle to draw even the biggest fan of the sport.

Let's give Costner some credit for getting involved, because he's seen some amazing moments in person I'm sure if he's been to Fullerton's CWS victories. I'll try and post a link to Youtube! once it comes out.
