Cary Carolina Blue

By Doug Kroll - September 28, 2007

There are so many schedules now out, and not a lot of time to analyze them, so let's get down to it. North Carolina released its 2008 schedule this week, and wasn't it funny to see Cary, N.C. listed for home games? Well, probably not too funny for those who live on campus and were used to walking to games. As mentioned a couple of months ago, the Tar Heels will play their home games at Team USA's complex in Cary, about a half hour away from campus.

UNC comes off a school record 57 wins from 2007, and its second straight national runner-up finish, after losing to Oregon State in the CWS Finals for the second consecutive year.

So how about this for the defending ACC champions...they begin their season on the road at FAU. One would think that this weekend would be saved for a team let's say from the real North, not from North Carolina, but so be it. Good for the Owls to get one of the nation's best down to Boca the first week of the year. Heck, they might even be vulnerable then!!

The Heels continue on the road for the next two weekends as well, as they will participate in the Winthrop Tournament with St. John's, Kent State and of course, Winthrop. Then they will head across town to Duke the following weekend for the first ACC games of the year.

Besides that tournament and the trip to Florida, the non-conference portion of the schedule isn't anything to brag about. Princeton will come in four a couple of weeknight games, as do Old Dominion, VCU, Winthrop and of course a whole host of fellow North Carolina schools.

As for the ACC schedule, the Tar Heels better hope to rack up wins in the early portion of it, because the end is brutal. They will finish the season with back-to-back road weekends at Virginia and Miami, after hosting Florida State.

Looks like UNC will have plenty of wins again in '08, but it may not be too pretty down the stretch.
