Pirate Sweep

If there was ever a time for a team to make a statement, this was it. And that's exactly what East Carolina was able to accomplish on their trip to Houston this weekend. ECU completed the three game sweep with a dominating 9-2 win here on a hot and sticky Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field.

Pirates Pouring It On

East Carolina has chased Houston starter John Touchton in the fourth inning, after giving up seven hits and three runs, but he left with two guys on. ECU secondbaseman Drew Schieber greeted UH reliever Shea Hancock with a three run homer to right to give ECU a 6-0 lead.

Going To Sweep City

East Carolina will go for the sweep today against Houston, when Josh Dowdy takes the bump for the Pirates. And what a huge win that would be.

What A Bomb

Sometimes you just never know what you're going to see at the ballpark, and tonight, ECU proved that. After falling behind in the 7th inning on a passed ball on an intentional walk, Jamie Ray hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth to give ECU the lead, as they went on to score 5 runs in the frame, to win it 6-3.

On The Same Line

We're into the bottom of the fifth and we're tied at one. Same linescore for each time thus far, 1-4-0. Despite walking a few batters, ECU pitcher Dustin Sasser has escaped trouble for the most part.

Round Two

After a relaxing day in Houston, which basically ended up being people watching in the lobby of the hotel, it's time for baseball, on a rather ugly evening. East Carolina looks to build upon last night's 3-1 win, and move a game closer to Houston as the Pirates look to rise in the CUSA standings for the second straight night.

Pirates Hang On

The old saying in baseball goes, 'it's never easy.' Well, the ECU Pirates can attest to that. Leading 3-0 heading to the bottom of the ninth after an outstanding performance from T.J. Hose, an error lead Houston to fill the bases for closer Shane Mathews. Mathews walked in a run, but then recorded a strikeout to seal the victory for ECU, and get them that much closer to second place in the conference.

Low Scoring Affair

We're into the seventh inning here at Cougar Field. Rather empty Cougar Field. East Carolina leads things 2-0. I apologize for not having anything through the first few innings, but I spent time in the East Carolina dugout learing the tools of the trade. You'll be able to check out all of that at some point tomorrow when the video goes up.

Ready For Friday Night

Desperation is in the air in Houston. At least it's not black clouds like yesterday when we arrived. The Pirates meet the Cougars in a series that has postseason appearances riding on the line. Joining East Carolina yesterday, this is quite the loose bunch, and it's exactly what you'd hope, as a coach, your kids would be like when the calendar turns to May.
