Babson Wins Field Award
By Doug Kroll - January 03, 2008
This one sort of flew under the radar a bit, so it's time to give some props to Babson College (located in Massachusetts), for winning one of the more prestigious awards given out by ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association). The groundscrew up there should pat themselves on the back after receiving the ABCA/TURFACE Field Maintenance Award.
This isn't just an award for the best field in Division III baseball like I first thought when I was reading the release. No, it's for all divisions of college baseball (including NAIA), and even down to the high school level.
With receiving the award, Govoni Field will be sure to remain pristine thanks to, get this, ONE TON of TURFACE MVP infield conditioner, which will come in handy for all of those disgusting early season days up in that neck of the woods, and also $400 for maintenance equipment. Not bad at all.
Babson went 25-14 last season, including 13-6 at home. Massachusetts certainly wouldn't be the first place I'd look to find the best field in America, but that's mainly because of the weather. It's that much harder to keep thanks to the long winters.
