Russell's Return

By Doug Kroll - January 04, 2008

Texas fans can breathe a sigh of relief in regards to the outlook of their 2008 season. At least, at this point. With rumors wildly circulating that junior Kyle Russell will not play this season after contact with an agent, are false.

Russell has the most homeruns of anyone returning in college baseball, and it would have been a huge blow to the Longhorns.

The report in the Statesman, cites Russell stating that he's good to go this season, and that the rumors that are out there are false.

If you remember, Russell passed on an opportunity to turn pro after being drafted in June by the St. Louis Cardinals, to return for his junior season (Russell was a draft-eligible sophomore last season).

Obviously this is good news not only for Texas but for college baseball, as we're all itching to see if Texas' all-time leader in home runs can put up the same production once again.

In case you are wondering how those rumors would get started, Russell not playing in their fall games against Baylor and Texas State maybe had something to do with it.
