Around the Nation Part 1
By Doug Kroll - February 22, 2008
I have to admit, and I know I'm not the only one out there, but I've been waiting to surf the daily scoreboards of NCAA-Baseball.com since last June. That's part of what makes a standard Opening Day special, so throughout the day I'll check in on the surprising, and not-so-surprising results. The big story already are the number of cancellations and postponed games. Just look at the weather across the Carolina's, Kentucky and even southern Georgia, yikes.
-Louisiana-Lafayette opened the 08 campaign with a tighter-than-expected 2-1 win over Army. A lot of people think that ballclub has the best staff in the nation, and at the UTSA tourney to start the season, they should put up some good numbers like today. The Black Knights only mustered 4 hits, two against phenom Danny Farquhar during six innings of work. Farquhar struck out nine.
-How about Richmond? They just put up a 7 spot at UNC-Wilmington to go up 23-16. What are they going to do in the middle of the week of this is how they started? Jeez.
-South Carolina-ECU has been postponed. That's a shame. We wait another day to see if the Pirates can be giant-killers to start off the year.
Anyway, that's it for now. I'll keep comin back throughout.
It's now 3-0 Vandy on a Jonathan White RBI single. The throw home to try and get David Macias sailed high, and White was eventually thrown out at third to end the inning. Blame that one on the rain. Not hard enough to stop the game, just hard enough to keep our jackets and fleeces over the laptops.
