Chase's Debut

By Doug Kroll - February 24, 2008

Nick Christiani's day is over as the Vandy starter, after going 5 innings, as he sees himself on the short end of things at the moment. The righty gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks while striking out 5 batters. In his place comes talented freshman Chase Reid, who was a 42nd round draft pick last year of the Milwaukee Brewers. The 6-foot-3 righthander was injured in the fall and was limited, but coach Corbin feels he'll have an impact in the bullpen thanks to a pretty good curveball.

After getting Josh Hulsa on a groundball to first base with the first pitch of his collegiate career, an error by Andrew Giobbi at third on a Brad Gschwind groundball and a great bunt by Blake Chaffee that he was able to beat out, and a walk to Adam Eaton has set up a bases loaded situation with the RedHawks looking to bust the game wide open already leading 3-0 here in the 6th. Look out. We're on upset watch now in Tempe.
