Erwood Escapes Jam

By Doug Kroll - February 24, 2008

Miami starter Matt Erwood, all 6-foot-7 240 pounds of him, just got out of a major jam. After recording the first out of the bottom of the 4th, the lefty gave up three straight singles to load the bases, before he bared down. Erwood got both Shea Robin and Parker Hanks to pop up to second base to escape trouble and maintain Miami's 3-0 lead as we head to the 5th. A quick note on Pedro Alvarez. He keeps going out to warm up when Vandy is in the field. He trots out to left with his glove and catches throws from Vandy leftfielder Parker Hanks. But the key is, he's not throwing back. Steven Liddle also goes out, and Alvarez tosses him the ball to throw back to Hanks, without ever using his right arm. While there's no bandage or sling, it's pretty obvious which arm has been bothering Pedro.
