Game of the Weekend
By Doug Kroll - February 23, 2008
TEMPE, Ariz.- What a difference a day can make. A day after drizzle and 50 degree weather, we have gorgeous desert sunshine with a temperature of 64 degrees. The game of the weekend is about set to get underway, with Arizona State hosting Vanderbilt in Game Three of the DeMarini Invitational.
Your starting pitchers, righty Mike Leake for ASU, and righty Brett Jacobsen for Vanderbilt.
Each team won their opener yesterday, with Vanderbilt knocking off Oregon State, and ASU beating up on Miami (Ohio) in the nightcap.
Just a bit of news here, Commodore star third baseman Pedro Alvarez was a late scratch in this game, due to an apparent arm injury. We're told it's just for precautionary reasons, but nontheless, that's never good news in Game Two of the seaosn for coach Corbin. In his place is Andrew Giobbi.
If we get anymore info, we'll let you know.
Decent crowd on hand, as Vandy will go with basically the same lineup except of course for Alvarez. Look out for Johnny White who had two hits yesterday, and for ASU, star Brett Wallace will hit leadoff today.
Should be a good one here in Tempe.
