Oregon State Takes On Arizona State

They meet every year in the Pac-10, and for the 2nd straight year, Pat Casey's Oregon State Beavers will take on Pat Murphy's Arizona State Sun Devils in a non-conference game early in the season. This is the final game of the 2008 DeMarini Invitational, as ASU looks to win the tournament that they have hosted hoping to go a perfect 3-0. The Beavers bounced back last night from an opening day loss to Vanderbilt, with a win over Miami (Ohio).
Your starting pitchers today are two of the more coveted freshmen starters in the nation, so this should be an interesting battle. For the homestanding Sun Devils, it's righthander Seth Blair. The 6-foot-1 Illinois native was the No. 1 recruit out of the state of Illinois and was drafted in the 47th Round by the Oakland A's.
As for Oregon State, it's righty Greg Peavey that gets the tough assignment against the stacked Sun Devils lineup. The 6-foot-2 native of Vancouver, Wash. was ranked the No. 1 prospect coming out of the state of Washington and was drafted in the 24th Round by the New York Yankees last Spring.
So who has the better freshman starter? We'll see, as the wind is really whipping in from centerfield and it's still a bit chilly. So much for the 75 and sunny that they said it would be today. Oh well.
