Vandy Cruising
By Doug Kroll - February 22, 2008
Thanks to a brilliant start by Mike Minor, the 'Dores are on cruise control as we go to the 6th. Vandy's ace has struckout six, given up two hits and walked none in his five innings of work.
Give some credit to Oregon State freshman Tanner Robles who replaced Mike Stutes in the top of the fifth. In his first collegiate inning, the 14th round Angels draft pick from a year ago gave up only one run while facing the meat of the Vandy lineup.
He's back out there again in the 6th. He's got real good stuff, and being that coveted lefty never hurts. To be the first guy out of the 'pen for coach Casey in game No. 1 shows you what he thinks of him.
Robles just got through the top of the 6th, 1-2-3, and in his first 2 innings of work, he struckout four batters.
Stutes has seen better days, as he lasted only four innings.
We'll see if the Beavers have some early season magic as the wind has picked up, blowing straight in, with the rain STILL coming down. The crowd is pretty impressive considering the awful weather. A ton of Beavers fans have made the trip. This must feel right at home. Constant drizzle, windy and cool.
