Vandy's Turn To Escape
By Doug Kroll - February 24, 2008
Already leading 3-0 and after a Tommy Nurre single with two outs, Chris Nadeau smacked a double down the rightfield line, and Miami head coach Dan Simonds sent Nurre around third. Dominic de la Osa's throw from right appeared to be late, with catcher Shea Robin getting the tag down after Nurre had touched home. But first base umpire, Dan Mascorro disagreed, and called him out. He was covering home on the play of course. Simonds came running down the line in protest, but to no avail. Although Mascorro did give him the whole time in between innings to say is spiel. So maybe he was safe. Either way, RedHawks still lead things 3-0 and are cruising behind big lefty Matt Erwood, who has continued the stretch of good pitching by Miami this weekend.
