Volleyball Hands # 2 Washington First Loss
#21 UCLA defeated #2 Washington on Saturday in Pauley Pavilion, winning in five games by the scores of 34-32, 30-27, 28-30, 25-30, 15-13. The UCLA victory ended the Huskies' 23-match winning streak. The match marked significant personal achievements for UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski as well as for several players; Banachowski became the first collegiate womens volleyball coach in history to record 1,000 victories; junior middle blocker Nana Meriwether tied the school record for blocks in a match with 17; and both Katie Carter and Rachell Johnson had career-highs in kills with 23 and 21, respectively. UCLA improves to 16-8 (8-6 Pac-10) on the season while Washington falls to 23-1, 14-1 Pac-10.
